St Mary’s NS support St Vincent De Paul Society

Picture
We had a very successful Christmas Movie Day on the 18th of December last. Pupils enjoyed wearing Christmas themed jumpers, drinking a mug of delicious hot chocolate and partying with their friends, to celebrate the season.
In doing so, the children made generous donations for the local branch of the St Vincent de Paul society. We are very aware of the work that this organisation does to benefit those in need of food, fuel, clothing, housing, home visitation and they provide education and training where needed.
Thank you to Mr Dessie Mc Entee and Mr Micheál Coyle, who visited the school on behalf of the Monaghan branch of St Vincent de Paul. They gratefully accepted a donation of €285 presented to them by our Student Council. Thank you to the parents for supporting us in this important fundraiser.

Christmas festivities at Threemilehouse!

Evening of Festive Music

On Sunday evening last, 14th December, we were treated to a wonderful night of music and song from the band Tully and the Scór na n-óg group from the Sean Mac Diarmada club, who are All Ireland finalists. Our twenty children in the Grúpacheoil opened the concert with two beautiful carols: ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ and ‘Silent Night’.
The remainder of the choir which included twenty- two more pupils, joined in with two songs:’ Do you hear what I hear?’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’. We could not be more proud of how the children performed. They certainly did their best and entertained all present with their sweet voices.
I wish to thank Therese Mc Connon and the Parents Association for organising this event. Many parents gave of their time, be it selling the tickets, decorating the church beautifully, helping with parking and organising the shuttle bus from the Complex for those attending.
Thank you to John Freeman, our hardworking sacristan, who had the church in pristine condition. Thank you to Monaghan Parish for allowing the church be used for this feast of music.
The proceeds from this concert will be given to the Parents Association. Their work is invaluable in supporting the school, building up resources to ensure that our pupils get every opportunity to progress in their learning.
We here in St Mary’s NS hugely appreciate and are grateful for the many months of preparation that went into organising the concert.
Thank you to the school staff who supported the children.
We congratulate our pupils on their performance both on stage and in the audience. We thank you the parents for supporting this memorable evening in such large numbers.
Míle buíochas!

Junior Classes visit clones library!

Our junior classes had a wonderful time in Clones library on Thursday 11th December. For some children it was their very first school tour and it was certainly a memorable one. They enjoyed Christmas story time and they had great fun playing. Cairde classes spent time in the sensory room and all classes got a tour of our county library.
Each child was treated to the gift of a beautiful Christmas book. Thank you to the staff of Clones Library for welcoming our children and making it a special day for all.

The more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
The more places you’ll go,’

Student Council 2025-2026

Pupils in 2nd, 3rd, 4th ,5th,6th and Cairde 3 took part in our Student Council hustings on Wednesday and Thursday 26th and 27th November 2025.
38 children in all presented their detailed manifestos to pupils and staff. Each child composed catchy slogans, explained the reasons they would make a good candidate and improvements they would make in our school. It was wonderful to hear their ideas, dreams and plans for the future. It took much courage and confidence to stand up in front of their peers and staff to deliver their speeches. Congratulations to each one of you. You did yourselves proud.
Mrs Harraghy thanked the outgoing Council for their contribution to school life and their leadership in the past year. Go raibh maith agaibh: Jake, Reagan, Emily, Sammy, Emma, Sarah, Jessica, Tom, Noah, and Kaelyn, not forgetting our past pupils Emily Rose, Rory, Molly and Callum.
We are delighted to present our brand new Student Council for the current academic year: Ciara, Noah, Shane, Kaelyn, Aaron, Ryan, Charlie, Aden, Hanna, Conor, Clodagh, Ollie & Amy We wish them well in their endeavours. I think we have a lot to look forward to in the near future.

stem & Lego Workshops!

The 3D printing workshop with Robert was a brilliant success for the pupils from 3rd-6th class. The children were really engaged throughout and enjoyed the process of creating a small boat made from plastic in the 3D printer. The children also learned about an actual house that can be made through 3D printing which was very interesting.

The Lego (stem) workshop was also a great success for the younger classes from junior infants to 2nd class. They enjoyed creating different pieces of Lego with the help and assistance from Caroline and it really encouraged the children to be creative.

Both workshops were a great success!

The pupils enjoyed paired reading recently!

🌈 Friendship Week Newsletter 🌈

We had an amazing time celebrating Friendship Week! The week was filled with fun activities and special events all about kindness and friendship.
We launched our new Bí Cineálta (Be Kind) Policy to prevent and address bullying behaviour and we introduced The Chatterbox, a new place where everyone could post their concerns anonymously.
During the week, we learned important lessons on how to be a good friend, took part in an exciting art competition designing Bí Cineálta posters, and every class made their own beautiful suncatchers to brighten up our school.
The celebrations ended with a lovely assembly outside, where we announced the poster competition winners and came together to sing “Circle of Friends.” It was a wonderful way to finish a week full of kindness, creativity, and friendship! 💛 to edit.

spooktacular Halloween

 Maths Week 2025

Maths Week in St Mary’s was a great success with every class exploring maths in a fun way. Each class took part in a variety of activities in their classrooms including puzzles, riddles, maths trails, PE, art activities and daily problems. The children used a variety of concrete materials to help them with their problem solving. Some classes took part in an online maths quiz which proved to be popular and great fun. The children learned to use their “Maths Eyes” and see that maths really is everywhere around us. We hope the children will continue their enthusiasm and curiosity in maths!

Skipping Workshop

On Friday the 17th of October all of the pupils participated in an exciting skipping workshop provided by Mark from SKIPnROPE. Everyone learned new skills, laughed and had fun. The pupils got the opportunity to learn new skills, tricks from basic jumps to cool routines. Skipping improves coordination, balance and overall fitness while encouraging children to be social, have fun and instil resilience in them. It was a wonderful, energetic experience that left everyone smiling — and a few even inspired to keep skipping at break times! Thank you to Mark who taught the children these skills. They all had a fabulous time.

 Cumann na mBunscol Champions

We are super proud of the boys’ team who are the Co Monaghan Cumann na mBunscol Division 3 champions. Our school has won for the second year in a row. The match was held in St Mary’s Park, Castleblayney on Saturday last 18th October 2025 at 10.10am.
The winning team was led by their joint captains Shea Daly and Odhran Murphy. It was a great match against Mullaghrafferty NS.
We saw team work and speed. Every player gave their all, 100% effort. We saw grit and determination. Even though they were behind by several points, they dug deep and they kept going. They believed in themselves and they won well. They never gave up.
Thank you to the parents, the staff, the families, members of the Board of Management, the friends and the many pupils who went to Castleblayney to cheer for the boys on Saturday. It was indeed a historical day for the Parish of Kilmore Drumsnatt, with two schools winning their division. Congratulations to St Michael’s NS Corcaghan who won the Division 5 final.
We also wish to say that the boys looked great in their new school jerseys. We thank Kilmore Sports Hub for sponsoring this gear.
Mr Rice and Mr Morahan would like to thank everyone for their support towards the team over the past two months. They congratulate the boys on a fantastic win which resulted from an unbelievable attitude, resilience and hard -working performance. They are thrilled for the boys and proud of them for this brilliant achievement.
